The job photographs on our homepage are provided by our featured contractor. Every other photograph on this site is openly licensed or in the public domain, and each one is credited below with its creator, licence and source. None are stock photos posing as a local crew, and none are used outside the terms the creator set.

Photographs used on this site

The table lists every other image file in this site's public image directory, the original work it comes from, the creator, the licence and where it was obtained. Files served in more than one size, such as the hero, share a single entry because they are derived from one original.

Why photographs are credited at all
Creative Commons attribution licences require the creator to be named, and CC BY-SA additionally requires derivative works to carry the same licence. Cropping and converting an image to WebP does not remove that obligation. A contractor site using openly licensed photography without attribution is in breach of the licence, which is a poor advertisement for a business asking you to trust it with rules of any kind.

What the photographs show

Apart from the featured contractor's photographs above, these are illustrative photographs of tree work, species and conditions relevant to the topic on each page, not photographs of local jobs. We say so plainly rather than implying otherwise. Where an image shows a species that also grows in Fremont, such as the coast live oak on the oak care pages, it was chosen for that reason.

A few are deliberately not local. The stump grinder image is from New Jersey, the palm is from Baja California Sur, the crane removal photograph is from Kungstradgarden park in Stockholm, and the tree trimming photograph is from Austria. Those were the best openly licensed photographs available showing the equipment and the species clearly. Where an image is genuinely of this area, such as the Fremont hills, Lake Elizabeth and Niles photographs, the source record says so.

Diagrams

The labeled diagrams (files starting with diagram-) are drawn for this site and are not to scale. The permit thresholds and the 4.5 foot measuring height come from Fremont's tree ordinance as quoted on our permit pages; the protection zone radius of 15 times the trunk diameter and the stump depths from the same pages; pruning cuts from ANSI A300 and ISA practice; defensible space zones from California Public Resources Code 4291 and CAL FIRE; the 811 notice from California Government Code 4216.2; and the Sudden Oak Death cycle from UC IPM and the California Oak Mortality Task Force.

The licences in plain terms

Public domain and CC0 place no restriction on use. CC BY requires attribution to the creator. CC BY-SA requires attribution and requires derivative works to be shared under the same licence. The version numbers, such as 3.0 and 4.0, refer to successive revisions of the Creative Commons licence suite, and the differences between them do not change the attribution obligation.

If you are the creator of any image listed here and something in the attribution is wrong, or you would like the image removed, get in touch through the contact form and it will be corrected or taken down.
